I love my routine writing job

Yesterday, I stumbled upon an honest post a janitor wrote about loving his/her job in Reddit.

It inspired me to write this.

I’m a copywriter who works for a Chinese company. I write the product descriptions about electronic products, then I input them on the backend of the company’s website. It is not an exciting job. And compared to copywriters who work for US/European companies, my pay is low. Despite its unglamorous repetitive nature and the lower pay, I LOVE MY JOB. This is because I get to work at home, so I can keep watch on my kids. No amount of money in the world can compensate me for the time and energy I need to have on reserve to care for my children. They are my #1 priority.

My Chinese client, who I see as an employer, also allows me to work on flexi-time, and since we are in the same time zone, I don’t have to sacrifice my sleep. I have anorexia, and it is a managed case. But I cannot manage it without safe routines and firm boundaries. In my job, I do a lot of repetitive, structured work.

Some writers may find it repetitive and boring. Some writers find it an insult to their creativity, but not me. Writing about electronics means I don’t get an inch near food or food-related topics (this suits me fine, as these topics are triggering.) To top it all off, I have a great boss, who I look up to. We’ve got a good working dynamic, and in the world of on-line work, this is a gem. So, I don’t care of I can be paid four times higher of I work for a US/ European company. I don’t care if I can get benefits if I work for a local Filipino company. I simply love my job and the good it does to me.
